Germany EU Blue Card – Germany Resident Permit

The Germany EU Blue Card is to permit the foreign professionals to work in Germany. The card is introduced as a resident permit which is given to the foreign nationals who have a university degree or a similar qualification.

Eligibility for the Card

Validity of the Blue Card

The valid of an EU Blue Card is maximum four years. If the work period is less than 4 years, the card is issued for the work period with an addition of 3 three months duration.

  • The family members of the Germany EU Blue Card holder can enter into Germany along with the main applicant. They can also receive a resident permit in Germany

  • The holders will receive a permanent residence after 33 months, suppose the German language skills according to B1 level are proven, then the duration will be shortened to 21 months
  • EU Blue Card holders can also stay outside of the EU for twelve months and without making residence permit invalid
  • Highly qualified skilled persons who are having a Blue Card can travel another EU country after some duration of about 18 months is passed
  • Stays in the various EU member states will be cumulated towards getting the permanent residence right
This Germany Blue Card initiative is taken to attract very highly qualified workers to migrate to Germany. This entry took effect on 1 August 2012. This is in addition to the Recognition Act, that facilitates the foreign professional credential recognition, many major changes are been made to this German Residence Act to implement the Directive of European Union's on the Highly Qualified Workers.
